Potential item discussion - Which to do?

Something we could do for the Commissariat is home made pickles and maybe pickled eggs. It would be kind of cool to present several jars of the stuff with the Eoforwic badge on it, for use at any given point in the future. Unfortunately, I have no clue how to prepare something for pickling or what is involved.

I have several recipes for pickles: both period recipes for pickled vegetables, pickled meat and an Eoforwic historical one for pickled fish (courtesy of Mistress Mortraeth). On the other hand, I have only very limited experience in canning.

One thing to think about is how much we want to do consumables versus items that can be re-used year after year.

Another is that my thought for the commissariat was that we would be outfitting a member of the commissariat (apron, towel, water jug, shade, etc.) rather than just providing items to be distributed through the commissariat. That's just my impression, though.

War Door There seemed to be a pretty strong consensus around this one at the meeting, so I'm going to indicate it as confirmed on the main page.

Spear When we were taking about making 5 or 6 spears, concerns about cost came up. I'm not sure how much of a concern it is with just one to make.

Baldric or "butt flap" (for rapier combatant) There was indication this would be preferred to a tabard as it doesn't cover up the flashy clothes.

Potential item discussion - How to do them?

If we go ahead with doing banners (small/large/for ends of spears/etc.), I could help teach people to make the nifty silk kind. The best part is that they take up almost no room once they're finished and it's actually a very easy process- I'm sure most of our group could easily get the hang of it. :) If they're still good, I'd also be willing to donate the use of some of my leftover paints from FOOL as the outlay for the materials can get a bit pricey when you get into a lot of colours (however, we'd probably need more of whatever the background colour would be, depending on the size of the banners). I don't have the room to host it though, and it would take at least a couple of gatherings (mostly due to letting stuff dry) so whoever hosted them would have to be willing to have a bunch of frames sitting around for a while.
